Fitness Outside of ‘The Box’


IRONMAN®.  2.4 Mile Swim. 112 Mile Bike. 26.2 Mile Run.

Our very own Jessica Fasulo is about to conquer her third IRONMAN® competition this Saturday, August 20th, 2016 in Kalmar, Sweden. Jessica is a physical education teacher in Las Vegas, Nevada. She is also a yoga instructor and CrossFitter here at CFRA. Her students will soon learn CrossFit as she recently became a CF-L1 Trainer. She is a friend and inspiration to all of us. Many may describe her as fearless.

This weekend Jessica will be swimming in the Baltic Sea for what she estimates will be an hour. The water will be in the upper 50s (*shivers*). Then, she will hop on her bike and ride for about 7 hours. Following the bike ride, she will run a full marathon; that’s 26.2 miles. Jessica imagines the run will take her about 4.5 to 5.5 hours. That’s around 13 hours of exercising, people. Not only exercising her body physically, but exercising her mind!

Jessica is the perfect example of taking her fitness outside of the box.

CrossFit founder, Greg Glassman, specifically defines CrossFit as constantly varied, high-intensity, functional movement. “All CrossFit workouts are based on functional movements, and these movements reflect the best aspects of gymnastics, weightlifting, running, rowing and more. The beauty of CrossFit is just that, no specialization. Preparing you for functional movements in day-to-day life. Pushing your mental capacity beyond it’s current range. And taking these practiced skills outside of the box to enjoy other activities. It’s evident Jesssica is not just specialized in one exercise and she is utilizing her skills outside of CFRA. Yes,  we encourage you to come to CrossFit, but we also encourage you to enjoy a hike, a bike ride, a swim. Heck, do an IRONMAN®. CrossFit is not for everyone, but it is for anyone. Come and learn how CrossFit inside the box can make you better outside of the box.
